Book Reviews

  A crisp, brilliant book
By Dhanya Rajesh
Ghachar Ghochar is a read which weighs many folds than its volume. The book is rags to riches story of a family and how their family dynamics as well as each of their individual life perspectives change in the light of new found wealth. In modern times when money has become so overpowering this books kind of give you an insight to think and introspect. The narration seems understated and plot progress through nitty-gritties of the daily affairs and farces in the family. Until one realises the undercover Ghachar Ghochar the author has cleverly weaved beneath it. The story is set in Bangalore and is narrated by a nameless young man. Each of the characters in his family has their own ways, but one rule all of them abide for the common good of their house ecosystem is that: “The well-being of any household rests on selective acts of blindness and deafness” What happens when this system gets wavered? Wait for the book to reveal what it has and don't go in search of it. There is a brilliance in everything about the book be it the crisp, sharp writing of Vivek Shabang, or be it the perfect cover and title. This book is a synonym of “brevity is the soul of wit”. Just saying enough …but once you finish you revisit the sentences and find new dimensions in them. In fact, what book says to the reader is not to just read between the lines but to re-read the lines.
